He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Karau and Olidia Karau (Schulz); his siblings, Dorothy, Gregory, Ralph Karau and Lucy Voelker (Archie); his brothers-in-law, Harland Ratike, Robert Connell and Barry Friesen; his parents-in-law, Fritz Connell, Shirley Connell and Bette Connell; and his granddaughter-in-law Casey Karau.
He is survived by: his wife Garnet Karau; his children, Dean Karau (Jackie Smith), Tony Karau (Rachel), Audrey Karau (Bob Shelton) and Jeff Karau (Jessica Rosario); his grandchildren, Allison (Joe), Andrew (Rose), Shawn (Stacy) and Korryn (Brandon); his siblings, Rosalin Ratike, Joline Wright (Eldon), Doris Friesen, Dennis Karau (Margaret), Gladys Berlin and Helen Karau; and his siblings-in-law, Tim Karau and Carol Connell. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
