She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward Hesse (Mary) and Rose Hesse (Poppler); her husband Cyril Schmitz; her daughter Mary Jo (Phil Holbrook); and her siblings, Juliana (Kerber), Harold Hesse and Barbara Jean (Peterson).

She is survived by: her children, David, Mark, Carl, Stephen and Stephanie (Chris DeVine); her grandson Daniel; and her great grandchildren, Fiona, Augustus, Eloise and Jasper.
