He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Schafer and Elsie Schafer; and his siblings, Beatrice McDougal, Evelyn Andring (Cyril), Roy Schafer (Lillian), Beulah Kampa (Raymond), Violet Balk (Elroy), Inez Loppnow (Alton) and Orrin Schafer.
He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Thayer (Easter Sunday); his children, Jeffrey Schafer (Nancy), Troy Schafer (Beth Clark), Dawn Olson (Britt) and Teri Bronk (Eugene); and his grandchildren, Jennifer Parkhurst, Jeffrey Schafer, Britt Olson Jr., Sam Olson, Kolby Olson, Todd Olson, Savannah Bronk and Zane Bronk. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
