He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Schmidt and Joan Schmidt; his great grandchild Cooper Schmidt; and his brothers, Mark Schmidt and Danny Schmidt.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Schmidt; his sons, Dave Schmidt (Mary) of Rush City, Will Schmidt (Wendy) of Rush City and Jim Schmidt (Glenda) of Rush City; and his siblings, Ken Schmidt (Marie) of North Carolina, Tom Schmidt (Grace) of Chisago City, Vernon Schmidt, Jr. (Linda) of Iron River, Cheryl Istvanovich (Ron) of Hugo, Martin Schmidt (Faith) of Forest Lake and Beverly Hanson (Dave) of Shafer. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
