He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Arvid Cartwright and Elizabeth Cartwright (Swain); his wife Carole Cartwright; his children, Scott (Victoria) and Alison Cartwright Reid (Richard); his grandchildren, Natalie, Stephanie Cartwright, Bryson and Addison Reid; his siblings, Peter Cartwright and Catherine Harrison; and his brother-in-law James Roth (Rita).

He was selected for the Hamline University Athletic Hall of Fame for contributions to athletics and community in 1960.
