He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen Novotny (Hejtmanek) and James Novotny; his wife Victoria Lynn Johnson (Vicki); and his brother-in-law Gary Gabbert. He is survived by: his children, Christina Everett (Jamie) of Fargo, ND, Amanda Thorson (Ryan) of Ottertail, MN and Seth Novotny (Brittany) of Roseau, MN.; and his siblings, Clifford Novotny (Marie), Shirley Heley (Art) and Dorothy Gabbert.
