He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Nelson and Edith Nelson (Larson); his sister Christine Carlson; his wife Leona Nelson; his daughter Barbara Mary; and his grandson Kyle Sagedahl.
He is survived by: his uncle Helmer; his former wife Leona Novacek of Greenbush; his daughters, Sandra Torgerson (Paul), Jessica Novacek of Bemidji, MN and Lisa Nelson (Eric) of Wanamingo, MN; his stepchildren, Jody Smith (Fred) of Minneapolis, Jane Tradup (Joel) of Minneapolis, Joan Sagedahl (Desi) of Bemidji, Jolene Anderson of Roseau and Jack Johnson of Bemidji; his grandchildren, Andrew (Kim), Jacob (Emily), Sam, Isaac, Luke (Amy), John, Derek, Maria (Jeff), Rachel (Jed), Karin (Isaiah), Kate (Bob), Noelle, Amanda (Aaron), Tony (Shannon), Morgan, Tara, Hannah and Josh; his uncle Clayton Erickson; his sisters-in-law, Ida, Amelia, Darlene and Glendora Novacek; and his pet Ben. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews.
