He was predeceased by: his parents, Matthew Schaefer and Mary Schaefer (Heimer); his son Rodney Schaefer; his siblings, Florence Lee (Russ), Bernice Malaczewski (Al), Don Schaefer (Liz), Orin Schaefer (Marge), David Schaefer (Corrine), Adeline Hanson (John), Richard Schaefer (Carol) and Lucille Hanson (Harry); and his in-laws, Dorothy, Ruby, Muriel, Carol, Harlan, Delores, Ardy, Ronald and Myron.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Schaefer of Rose Creek, Minnesota; his children, Bonnie Schaefer of Rochester, Margaret Srsen (Jon) of Blooming Prairie, Dean Schaefer of Waltham, Gail Kiefer (Leonard) of Rose Creek, Jeffrey Schaefer (Nancy) of Shell Rock and Elizabeth Schaefer of Austin, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Travis Kiefer (Anna), Taylor Kiefer, Dylan Srsen, Nick Srsen, Lindsey Schaefer, Jayden Schaefer, Kaitlyn Schaefer, Hailey Schaefer and Logan Schaefer; his great grandchildren, Pearl, Iris, Amelia and Karsyn; and his sister-in-law Cheryl Deets (Rusty). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
