He was predeceased by: his wife Marjean (Merseth); his brothers, Ken (Sue) and Wayne (Karen); his son Kurt Stechmann; and his parents, Gertrude Stechmann and Henry Stechmann.
He is survived by: his children, Dana Hansen (Eric) of Tucson and Erik (Marlisa) of Peachtree City, Georgia; his grandchildren, Erin, Jacob (Emily), Cara, Dylan Stechmann, Nicholas and Alexis Hansen; his great grandchildren, Kurtis Stechmann and Seleste Aurora Leufkens; his sister Beverly Johnson (Robert) of Venice, Florida; and his sisters-in-law, Karen Stechmann of Ballwin and Sue Stechmann of Lake City. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
