He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Gard and Vera Gard (Swenson); his son Thomas Gard; and his sister Barbara Nield. He is survived by: his wife Pat; his children, Deanna Gard, Paul Gard (Debbie), Rande Barrowman (Douglas) and Tari Canales (Michael); his grandchildren, Brent, Greg, Alex, Zach, Elizabeth, Christopher, Michael, April and Emily; his great grandchildren, Joseph, Isaac, Landon, Ethan, Autumn, Xander, Bryce, Charlotte, Ada, Aubrey, Ayoven and Pherric; and his cousin Kathryn Sandquist (family: Ray Sands, Bette Swanson, Sharon Walker). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In his final act of generosity, Donald unselfishly donated his body to science through the Body. Donation Program at Mayo Clinic, leaving behind a legacy of learning and healing.
