Carl was born to Arnold Martin and Meta Marie (Pedersen) Newberg on April 29, 1934, at home on the farm in Princeton. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1952. Carl attended the Minnesota School of Business where he earned a degree in accounting. He found employment at Sawyer Cleator Lumber Company where he worked for 35 years, first as a bookkeeper and eventually he was promoted to a corporate credit manager. Carl then worked at Cemstone as a credit manager from where he "retired" at the age of 62. He found that he missed working and took employment as a credit manager at Federated Co-ops in Princeton until he was 77 years old. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed spending time with his many coworkers over the years. Carl also worked on the family farm from the time he was very young until he was into his 80s, originally running a dairy farm as a youth then raising corn and soybeans and eventually raising just hay in his "retirement.". His favorite tractor is John Deere, and you often would see him in a John Deere cap.
Carl was known for his oddly funny sense of humor without even realizing it. His family shared many laughs with him. He enjoyed reading, watching old western shows, listening to Dolly Parton music, talking about history and the Civil War, traveling around the world, especially to Egypt, tending to his hay business, driving around his Gator, petting his cat Cleo, and sitting on his front porch looking out at the land.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Christine (Dennis) Mangen; son, Matthew Newberg; grandchildren, Jonathan Newberg, Morgan Newberg, Erin Planting, Beau Mangen, Alexa (Pablo) Medrano, and Martin (Jessica) Newberg; great-grandchildren, Austin (Kelcee), Owen, John, Norah, Adrian, Camila, Julian, Kianna, and Luka; and great-great-grandchildren, Drake and Liam.
He was preceded in death by his son, Martin Newberg; grandson, John Mangen; sister, Arlene (Chet) Jones; and brother, Junior Newberg.
