He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Marcine Diel and Helen Diel (Terhune); his former wife Vivian Liggenstoffer Reed; his wife Jean of Plainview, MN.; his children, Gregory Diel (Ginger) of Enid, OK, Lanny Diel (Christine) of Ottawa, KS, Vanessa Garvie (Brent) of Burlington, OK, Ann Liebenow-Anttila (Scott) and Mark Liebenow (Beth) of Plainview, MN.; his grandson Garrett Diel (Lindsey); his great grandchildren, Charles and Maverik of Edmond, OK; his grandsons, Grant Diel (Shannon) and Jake Diel (Traci); his great grandchildren, Rhetlee and Rhyver of Ottawa, KS; his grandchildren, Cooper Diel, Riley Diel (Jeremiah Hartman), Kate May (Jerry) of Kiowa, KS, Sarah Garvie (Grant Wilber) of Burlington, OK, Jack Benson of Moline, IL and Marissa Anttila of Rochester, MN; and his sisters, Marcelin Ackerman and Marilyn Schurter. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, out-laws, and friends.

At the auctions, Gene would purchase produce to donate or resell to family, friends, and other community members with just enough profit to cover his gas.
