He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl and Gladys; and his stepchildren, Valerie LeClair and Kim Tauer. He is survived by: his wife Liz; his son Matt Carlson (Patty); his stepchildren, Dawn Daucsavage (Keith), Jackie LaPierre (Chuck) and Don Swing (Nikki); and his sister Sandy Mahn (Jerry). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
