He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Nelson and Genevieve Nelson (Peterson); his former wife Corrine Nelson; his stepchildren, Joey Rohrs and Melissa Gammello; his son-in-law Reed Schmidt; and his granddaughter Dalerie DeRosier.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Nelson; his daughters, Mary Schmidt (Kurt Morse) and Jane Nelson Como (Greg Carlson); his stepson Tony DeRosier (Tanya); his grandchildren, Megan Lensing (Craig), Emily Daun, Lyle Schmidt (Zach), Mac Como (Erica Edel), Ted Como, Ryan DeRosier (Charlie Johnson), Kinsley DeRosier, Ashley Gammello (Taz), Josh Gammello and Dominic Gammello; and his siblings, Lyn Almquist (John), William Nelson (Amy) and Richard Larson (Ann). He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services - Baxter (7348 Excelsior Rd, Baxter, MN 56425). A funeral service was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery (15550 Hwy 15, Little Falls, MN 56345).
