He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Thalmann and Eleanora Thalmann (Grefe); his wife LaVey Phyllis Helmrichs; his granddaughter Katie; his great grandchild Bryce; his siblings, Elvera, Elaine, Victor and Loren; and his brother-in-law Melvin Helmrichs.

He is survived by: his children, Rod, Rodney Thalmann (Sharon) of Henning, Ruth Bosse (Richard) of Ottertail and Pete Thalmann (Renae) of Ottertail; and his sisters-in-law, Mildred Helmrichs of Deer Creek and Janice Thalmann of Fargo.
