He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Grothen and Clara Grothen (Brockopp); and his siblings, Melvin, Norma, Verna, Evelyn and Bernice.
He is survived by: his wife Ethel Zinter; his children, Linda Andrist (Larry) of Villa Rica, Judy Noetzelman (Dennis) of Parkers Prairie, Herbert Grothen (Jean) of Parkers Prairie, Donald Grothen (Cathy) of Parkers Prairie and Jerry Grothen (Jenny) of Parkers Prairie; his siblings, Kenneth Grothen (Ardith) of Hanley Falls and Carol White of Parkers Prairie; and his grandchildren, Eric Andrist (Liberty), Cindy Upchurch (Jeffrey), Shelly Grothen, Melissa Syring (David), Kristin Canatsey (Sam), Kacie Sullivan (Bryant), Katie Bahl (Nate), Sandy Spindler (Chad), Amy Mackiewski (Andy), Amanda Gesell (Eli), Aaron Noetzelman (Carley) and Anthony Noetzelman (Megan). He is also survived by 31 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
