She was predeceased by: her parents, Zeferino Vela and Emma Vela (Rodriguez); and her children, Maryann Alvarez and Frank Alvarez. She is survived by: her former husbands, Juan Alvarez and Paul Schweim; her children, Sylvia Santoyo of Owatonna, Teresa "Curly" Alvarez of Owatonna, Mary Helen Alvarez of Richfield and Martin Alvarez of Owatonna; and her siblings, Tina Gavilan (Jose) of West St, Amelia Castillo (Raul) of Owatonna, Benito Vela (Irma) of Owatonna, Zulema Vela Nesseth of West St, Alfred Vela (Stella) of Mahnomen and Patrick Vela (Mary) of Faribault. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
