He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Mallinger and Hjerda Mallinger (Loff); his son Paul Swanson (Jackie); his wives, Julia Loyland and Phyllis Swanson; and his siblings, Felix, Roy, Ralph, Irene and Marian Lien.
He is survived by: his daughters, Barbara Schmeck (Dale) of Baxter, MN, Sharon Miller (Dave) of Donnybrook, ND and Krista Montgomery (Shawn) of Manvel, ND.; his grandchildren, Brian Roberts, Derek Schmeck, Rikki Lien, Suzie Lahlum, Doug Miller, Collin Miller, Eric Miller, Patrick Miller, Julianne Hawkins, Evan Montgomery, Ashley Montgomery and Melissa Montgomery; his children, Lynette Briden (Jim), Warren and Jodi Maloney (Al) of Grand Forks, ND; his sister Ina Dahlum (late Vern) of Moorhead, MN.; and his close friend Deborah Hanson.
