He was predeceased by: his parents, Isadore Gergen and Clarice Gergen (Keller); his children, David Gergen and Deanna Smith; his grandson Michael Smith; and his son-in-law Mark Ruegemer.
He is survived by: his wife Cathy Gergen of Osakis; his children, Gene, Jr. (Steph), John, Lisa (Corey), Denise (Charlie), Deidre, Daniel (Liz), Desiree (James), Dominic (Katie) and Diane (Wyatt); and his siblings, Larry, Tom, Margaret and Pat. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
