She was predeceased by: her parents, Hubert Karels and Elsie Karels (James Croatt); and her siblings, Clarence, Norbert, Mildred Yatchkowski, Florence Ulrich, Irene Mathison, Sylvia Croatt, Mardelle Croatt, Ann Lund, Edward and Dennis.

She is survived by: her sister Betty Phillips; and her children, Karen Karn (Patrick), Thomas (Lori), Patrick (Lisa), Virginia DeBoer (Byron), Robert (Chrysa), Anthony (Julie), Paul (Jill) and Heidi Brown (Gary). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
