He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Benson and Alice Benson (Vonau); his former wife Rose Ann Benson; and his brother Robert Benson. He is survived by: his former wife Rose Ann Herdina; his wife Barbara Freiborg-Benson of Renville; his children, Joy Helmer (Greg) of Duluth, MN, Jeff Benson (Sandy) of Olivia, Larry Benson of Olivia, Galen Benson (Marie) of Tucson, AZ, Marlene Benson of Deer River, MN, Deb Tilton of Wasilla, AK, Jim Benson of Maple Lake, MN, Darlene Benson of Olivia and John Benson (Jennifer) of Danube; his stepchildren, Todd Freiborg (Peggy) of Sacred Heart, Jody Freiborg (Pam) of Willmar, Dawn Gartner (Paul) of Olivia, Robin Kleinhuizen (Jim) of Danube and Lisa Freiborg of Whitefish, MT; and his siblings, Rodney Benson (Martha) of Puposky and Elaine Wynne (Larry) of Minneapolis. He is also survived by 11 step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
