He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Wells Schroeder; and his brother Bob of Duluth. He is survived by: his siblings, Chuck of Silver Bay and Joyce Taylor (Ralph) of Kansas City, MO; his sister-in-law Marilyne of Duluth; and his children, Wendy Wiese (Jerry) of Stillwater, Wally, Jr. of Lake Elmo, Bill (Tammy) of Lakeland and Les (Lori) of McKinney, TX.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
