He was predeceased by: his children, Kathryn Mettler and Larry Mettler; his grandchild Chris Mettler; and his siblings, Ceil Olinger, Muggs Cline, Mary Ann Solberg, Loretta Fischer, Bernie Mettler, Steve Mettler, Kenny Mettler, Donnie Rutjes and Fred Rutjes.
He is survived by: his wife Bernadine Mettler of Nicollet; his children, Sandy Mettler of Mankato, Debra Hulke (Randy) of Nicollet, Elizabeth Kohout (Larry) of Redwood Falls, Shirley Meurer (Wayne) of Nicollet, Charles Mettler of Little Rock, James Mettler of Nicollet, Joseph Mettler (Judy) of Nicollet, Dennis Mettler (LaNae) of Nicollet, Richard Mettler of St. Peter and Douglas Mettler (Cherri) of San Antonio, Texas; his siblings, Millie Dorn of Nicollet, Rosie Ulrich of Fargo, Dorothy Ward of Mankato, Leonard Mettler of Mankato, Raymond Mettler (Marj) of Mankato and David Mettler of St. Peter; his parents, Charles Mettler and Elizabeth Mettler (Miller); and his grandchildren, Herman and Hubbard Milling. He is also survived by his 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
