He was predeceased by: his son-in-law Scott Stevensen; his siblings, Opal Biehn, Bern Gronholz, Ray, LeRoy and Robert; his parents, Edward J. Grunst and Grace Grunst (Hite); and his wife Sandra Ann Kettner.

He is survived by: his children, Kim Stevensen of Nicollet, Kelly Lewis (Ted) of Nicollet, Kari Arndt (Jeremy) of Nicollet, Edward "Butch" Grunst (Tia) of North Mankato, Tom Grunst (Anita) of Nicollet and Mike Grunst of Nicollet; his grandchildren, Elijah, Tyler, Makenzie, Marisa, Mikayla, Morgan, Madison, Jayden and Maleah; his stepgrandchildren, Andy, Brandi and Nicholas; his siblings, Mary Etta Kastens of Nicollet and Virgil "Dood" Grunst of Nicollet; and his brother-in-law Keith "Skeeter" Kettner (Mary) of New Ulm. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
