He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Patrick and Elsie Louise Welter (Brasel); and his siblings, Gregg, Daryl "Pete" and Betty Swenson.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Marion Korby of New York Mills; his children, Dean Welter (Debra) of Motley, Jona Hamilton (Douglas) of Grahamsville, NY, Daniel Welter (Bonnie) of New York Mills, Darin "Doob" Welter (Julie) of New York Mills and Peggy Welter (Jim Day) of Maple, WI; and his sisters, Margaret Meyer of Perham and Alvina Mathiason of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
