He was predeceased by: his wife Delphine Schugel; his parents-in-law, Frank and Anne Wolf; his grandson Robbie Schanus; his siblings, Marie (Robert Hillesheim), Virginia (Florian Prahl), Dorothy (Willard Breu), Rosemary (Harold Mees) and Melvin; his siblings-in-law, Juliann Schugel and Andrew Hofmeister; and his parents, John Schugel and Anna Schugel (Schaefer).
He is survived by: his children, Mary Ellen, Paul Schanus of New Ulm, Colleen, Lee Firchau of New Ulm, John Schugel of Hutchinson, Jim, Laurie Schugel and Bob Schugel of New Ulm; his grandchildren, Lisa Mack (Rusty), Jamin Loberg (Maki) and Sadi Hunstad (Jed); his sisters, Joyce Hofmeister, Carol Glaser (James) and Gloria Scheid (Dick); and his close friend Marie Brandel. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
