He was predeceased by: his brother Rolland Schaper; his parents-in-law, Herman, Emma Schapekahm-Franke and Walter Franke; his granddaughter Lauren Schaper; and his parents, Otto Schaper and Lean Schaper (Seute).
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Schaper of New Ulm; his sons, Blake Schaper (Patti) of New Ulm, Blair Schaper of New Berlin and Brad Schaper (Laura) of Onalaska, Wisconsin; his nephews, Lance Kuester, Randy Melzer, Steven Melzer and Jason Wegner; and his niece Jodi Wegner.
In lieu of flowers, gifts and memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and School Building Fund, New Ulm Baseball Association (Johnson Park) and the Minnesota Military Foundation.
