He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Gruenhagen and Iona Gruenhagen (Buboltz). He is survived by: his wife Judy Gruenhagen of New Ulm; his daughter Kelly Pfaff (Todd) of New Ulm; his grandchildren, Aaron Pfaff (Whitney) of Shakopee, Drew Pfaff (Stacy) of Chanhassen and Karlee Pfaff of St. Joseph; his great grandchild Harper Pfaff; his siblings, Gary Gruenhagen of Gibbon, Steven Gruenhagen (Kathi) of Gibbon, Marcia Meindl (Kim) of Detroit Lakes and Deanna Pomplun of Gibbon; and his former wife Judith Metzen. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
