He was predeceased by: his brother Raymond; his sister-in-law Carol Affolter; and his parents, John Affolter and Josephine Affolter (Huss). He is survived by: his children, Susan Carlson (Brent) of Duluth, Julie Thompson (Ray) of Sartell, Nancy Vogel (Barry) of Chanhassen and David Affolter of Minturn, Colorado; his brother Dr. LeRoy Affolter of Marshall; and his spouse Beverly Ann Berry. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three bonus great-grandchildren.
