He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Sand and Elizabeth Sand (Humbert); his former wife Alice Sand; his children, Alice, Kenneth and Gary; and his siblings, Paul Sand, Marie Thull, Rose Poepping, Edwin "Eddie" Sand and Sylvester Sand.
He is survived by: his former wife Alice Volkmuth; his wife Mildred Poepping-Sand of New Munich; his children, Daniel Sand (Mary) of Grey Eagle, Thomas Sand (Barbara) of Browerville, James Sand (Karen) of New Munich, Stephen Sand (Lori) of Cottage Grove, LuAnn Hinnenkamp (Dennis) of Alexandria, David Sand (Michelle) of Melrose and Ruth Ann Pfremmer (Wade) of Melrose; and his sisters-in-law, Dorine Sand and Theresa Sand. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
