Michael E. Koenigs Obituary

Michael E. Koenigs, age 55, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 12th, 2023 after courageously battling non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Amy Louise (nee Loeffel). He was a kind and caring father to Gretchen of Wauwatosa, WI, Joshua of New Berlin, WI and Benjamin of St. Louis, MO. Loved son of Phil and Sharon Koenigs of New Hope, MN. Further survived by his brother, Chris (Brenda) Koenigs and their son, Henry of Hugo, MN; his sisters, Shiela Koenigs of Champlin, MN and Suzie Koenigs of Maple Grove, MN; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ken and Mary Loeffel of Wauwatosa, WI; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jenny (Dave) Henzig and their daughters, Rebecca and Caroline of Wauwatosa, WI; Pete (Jennifer) Loeffel and their daughters, Abby and Allie of Wauwatosa, WI; and Joe (Stephanie Hodge) Loeffel and his children, Carwyn and Ainsley, and his step-children, Jacoby and Carly Walker of Westfield, IN; and Rachel Johnson, of Westfield, IN.

Mike is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. His life was full of love for his family and friends..

Michael was born in Charles City, IA on January 11th, 1968. He spent part of his childhood growing up in Rochester, MN where he went to grade school at St. Pius X. In 1978, his family moved to New Hope, MN where he attended grade school at St. Raphael Catholic School, Totino-Grace High School, and graduated from St. Mary's University in Winona, MN with a degree in Human Services. He also completed Master's coursework in Health Care Administration and Management from Cardinal Stritch University.

Mike and Amy met while attending St. Mary's University and became instant sweethearts. They were married on July 3rd, 1992 at Gesu Church in Milwaukee. They raised their family in Wauwatosa.

Mike had a passion for the elderly and served as the Nursing Home Administrator at several facilities throughout his career, most recently at CareAge of Brookfield. He loved being a leader and working together with his staff to provide quality compassionate care for the residents. Mike enjoyed spending time visiting with his residents and hearing everyone's life story. He was always touched and humbled at how each person has left an impact on the world. Mike always put the residents first; he showed them so much love and compassion.

Mike had a wonderful sense of humor and wit. He could bring a smile and laugh to everyone he met. His kindness and care towards others was a gift. He always took the time to listen to others and had a genuine interest in what others had to say. He had such a positive attitude in all that he did.

Mike loved his family and being the father to his three kids brought him so much joy (and perhaps a few headaches too). There was nothing he wouldn't do to help encourage and support the success of his children. He was very proud of all three of them. We know he regrets that he is unable to watch them grow and develop further as the loving, caring and amazing young adults that they have become. Mike and Amy's love for each other was steadfast and strong. They brought out the best in each other and supported one another throughout their lives together. They stood by each other through the tough times and celebrated all of the many happy times too. Amy plans to carry this love close to her heart as her life continues.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many caregivers at Froedtert Hospital who cared for Mike throughout the years since his cancer diagnosis.

To honor Mike's life, please spread a little laughter, kindness and love each day. Mike will be deeply missed, but will live on in our hearts forever.
