He was predeceased by: his wife Janet T. Schmuck (Johnson); his parents, Herbert Ernst Schmuck and Martha Schmuck (Mensen); and his siblings, Herb Jr., Ray, Gordy and Roseanne.
He is survived by: his children, David Van Gelder (Laura), Matthew Schmuck (Debbie Scott) and Elizabeth Whelan (Vincent); his grandchildren, Hayley (Jesse), Shea (Kale), Janna (Brandt), Cody, Sophia and Alexander; and his great grandchildren, Braydin, Ava, Audrey and Porter. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
