He is survived by : his wife Andrea Nelson (Cowles); his daughter Wendy Mead (Jon); his grandchildren, Kristina Britz (Matt), Adam Mead (Whitney), Dylan Mead and Jenna Mead (Danny Sachi); his son Richard Nelson (Leanne); his grandchildren, Hannah, Erik and Mitchell Nelson; his son Nils Nelson (Anneke); his grandchildren, Aubrey, Magnus and Cammack "Mack" Nelson; and his great grandchildren, Ellis, Lennox Mead and Mara Jo Sachi.

“Just heard today the sad news of Jerry's passing. No words can console you at such a difficult time but know that he was thought a wonderful, kind and productive man by many many people.. He was so important in many students and athletes lives. He was a great friend to my husband Dick They enjoyed many good times together.
