He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Aakre and Mabel Aakre (Nelson); his wife Florence Bjornson of Hawley; and his siblings, Mildred Flaten, Anna Herbranson, Charlotte Henry, Raymond, Robert, James, Herbert and Carl, Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Steven (Mary Sather Aakre) and Sheryl Grandbois (LeRoy); his grandson Matthew Grandbois (Natalie) of Lexington, MA; his sons, Joseph Grandbois (Jessica) of Eagan, MN, David Grandbois (Elizabeth) of Shakopee, MN, Christopher Aakre (Desiree Ahrens) of Rochester, MN, Grant Aakre (Katie) of Kirkland, WA and Harrison Aakre (Samantha) of Alexandria, MN; and his sister-in-law Clarice Aakre (Thorson). He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, April 4th 2025 at 10:00 AM. A prayer was held on Thursday, April 3rd 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Wright Funeral Home (404 Leonard St, Hawley, MN 56549). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Hegland Lutheran Church (25494 40th Ave S, Hawley, MN 56549). A burial was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 at the Hegland Lutheran Church Cemetery (25494 40th Ave S, Hawley, MN 56549).
