He was predeceased by: his parents, James Harrison Backer (Green) and Gwendolyn Richards Backer; his stepfather Lawrence; his sister Judy Johnson (Jerry); his aunt Ann Richards; his stepsons, Michael and Shaun Spengler; and his pet Zee.
He is survived by: his former wife Sharon "Shari" Boyd; his stepchildren, Jaime and Kenneth; his wife Cynthia "Cindy" Spengler; his children, Michelle Bourget (Mitch) and Rick Lawrence (Jeanna); his stepdaughter Kim Spengler; his adoptive children, Jaime Holland and Kenny (Tamera); his siblings, Diane Johnson (Julius) and Les Backer (Brenda); his grandchildren, Maykayla, Jessyca, Kaleb, Corey and Danny; his nieces, Monique, Rachel and Leslie; and his close friends, Jim Gompf and Gary Schultz.
