He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Oakland and Avangeline Oakland (Ganske); his son Dale Oakland; his granddaughter Melissa Oakland; his stepfather Frank Schultz; his son-in-law David Johnson; his sister-in-law June Oakland; his stepsisters, Pat and Janet; his former wives, Margaret Smith and Marge Howard; and his close friend LuAnn Strommer.
He is survived by: his children, Steven Oakland (MaryAnn) of Clarkfield, Cynthia Johnson of Westbrook and Patty Thompson (Scott) of Fruita, Colorado; his brothers, Don Oakland of Montevideo, Mark Schultz (Mary) of Montevideo and David Oakland (Glenda) of Aurora, Colorado; and his stepsister Betty Velde of Granite Falls. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
