William Arnold Galle Obituary

William Arnold Galle (92) passed away surrounded by his family on March 6, 2023.

William (Bill) was born on November 29, 1930 in Marshall, MN to Walter and Teresa, (Culshaw) Galle. William attended both; Marshall Public and Holy Redeemer Schools, graduating in 1948.

After graduation, he enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in Marshall, MN, while also, attending Elgin Watchmakers College. In 1951, Bill was drafted and sworn into the US Navy, where he served on the USS Rehobeth, a geological survey ship conducting Oceanographic, research in the North Atlantic, this provided an opportunity for travels from the Arctic Circle to Cuba.

Upon return to the states Bill met and married Frances Dirckx on August 26, 1958. A year to date the first of their five children arrived.

William began his career in 1956 at Sperry Univac/Unisys where he worked for 36 years, 4 of those years were spent in Long Valley, New Jersey and the rest of the time in Minneapolis.

After retiring Bill and Fran moved to Las Vegas, NV for 14 years; they enjoyed their time there, dad was especially proud to be a ranger of the Dell Webb golf community where they were, members. They also did a lot of traveling with friends and family at this time; highlights were, Argentina, Brazil, China, Hawaii, Hungary, Ireland and Scotland.

They returned to Minneapolis when Fran became ill and Dad returned to the Uptown area, just a, few blocks from where we lived for many years. After Mom's passing in 2013 Dad spent a lot of time enjoying family; especially the grandchildren's games, plays, concerts, dog sitting Fern and, attending many social gatherings with Brie.

Dad enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and the Unisys Retirement Club.

William is survived by his five children; Roshawn Galle, William Christopher (Louise) Galle, Michael (Elizabeth) Galle, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Galle and Matthew (Kristina) Galle. Ten, grandchildren; Brianna (Anthony) Mavunga, Lucas (Julie) Sook, Sasha (Kris) KIllion, Mazie, Galle, William Galle, Acacia (Liam Bard) Galle, Lauren Galle, Jack Galle, Eleanor Galle and, Benjamin Galle, along with four great grandchildren; Saint Anthony Mavunga, Eli Sook, Knox & Paxton Killion, sister in law Patricia (John) Bergonzi, along with nieces, nephews and friends.

William was preceded in death by his wife Frances, parents, Walter & Teresa Galle, brothers, and sisters in law; James and Eunice Galle & Daniel and Ardyce Galle, inlaws Louis and, Elizabeth Dirckx and brother in law Bruce Dirckx.

Dad recently told one of the grandchildren to enjoy their lives, he certainly has enjoyed his.

A service of remembrance will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary – St. Joseph's Chapel in Minneapolis on Saturday, March 18th at 12 p.m. With visitation 1 hour prior. Reception to follow. William will be buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with full military honors.

Gratitude to staff and physicians at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, especially Dr. Laine Ericson, Gobind Tarchand PA, The Waters of Excelsior, Park Nicollet Hospice and NC Little Hospice Edina. We can't thank you enough for your care and compassion for dad and the rest of us.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to NC Little Hospice Edina.
