He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence J. "Cap" Emmons and Clarette "Kelly" Emmons (Sanden); and his siblings, Ardath, Gerald "Bub" Emmons, Helen Spell (George) and Carol "Kie" Lockhart (Jimmie).

He is survived by: his significant other Ronald Bendixen; and his sister Carmen Higashi (Dick). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials preferred to Animal Humane Society of Golden Valley or the Emmons Family Scholarship Fund at the University of Dubuque.
