He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles and Sadie (Wolf); his stepmother Josephine (Wintheiser); his wives, Willa (Kinnear) and Donna (Andoe); and his siblings, Charles, Jacqueline (Heinrichs) and Vernette (Olson).

He is survived by: his children, David, Ronald, Darlene (Tom McDermott), Paul (Lizz), John (Paula) and Thomas (Stacy); and his stepdaughters, Patricia Bunce (Doug) and Kathleen Kern. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation.
