He was predeceased by: his wife Katherine B. "Kay" Graves; and his son-in-law Reed Olson. He is survived by: his children, Cynthia Olson (Reed), Thomas Graves, Paul Graves (Laura) and Suzanne Reed (Paul); his grandchildren, Jenna Anderson (Pat), Erin Olson, Stephen, Brian, Jacob, Dylan Graves, Lauren, Kayla, Sarah and Emily Reed; and his great grandchild Quinn Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Edina or the Union Gospel Mission, Minneapolis.
