She was predeceased by: her parents, Andrew Niemela and Selma Niemela (Ohlgren); and her siblings, Stella Ollila, Senia Niemela, Sylvia Johnson, Ida Bimberg, Agnes Bimberg, Rose Taylor, Victor Niemela, Mabel Ronan, Elsie Henry and Eleanor Beachy. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.

“I am sad to learn of my friend, Lorraine's death. I was just ready to write her a New Year's letter, and thought to check if she was at the same address. I learned to know her when she stayed with her sister Eleanor in Hesston, Kansas. We visited by phone after Eleanor died. Both were excellent writers. I hope her stories are saved so that nieces and nephews can treasure them. She was also a good listener and conversationalist. If one of you can call me, please do. 9178318598. Susan Miller”
