He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Jen of Rochester; his children, Beth Faflak (Dan) of Henderson, John Andrew Koop Jr. (Marcie) of Anchorage, AK, Amy Wallin (Paul) of Arden Hills, MN and David Koop of Brooklyn Park, MN; and his siblings, Peg Wacloff of Sun Lakes, AZ and Mary Schaak (Bernie) of Tower, MN. He was also cherished by seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, MN.
