He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard Stevenson and Melva Stevenson (Trumpower); and his sister Anna Marie. He is survived by: his wife JoAnne; and his children, Robin, James Jr. and Jason. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Home (250 Broadway St E, Monticello, MN 55362). A graveside service was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery (7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55450).
