He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Nieman and Florence Nieman; and his sisters, Roberta Husnik and Nancy Niven. He is survived by: his wife Dottie; his children, Brian Nieman, Rachel Clevenger (Jon) and Anna Millard; his grandchildren, Jack, Addie and Charlie; and his sister Virginia Pederson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
