He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hanten and Elizabeth Hanten; and his siblings, Clarence, Joe, John Hanten (Verlin), Clara Peddycoart, Florence Peddycoart, Louise Zins, Agnes Hullerman, Alice Hanten, Gladys Surprenant and Helen Reed.
He is survived by: his children, Mike Hanten (Judy), Jodie Frenz (Joe) and Steve Hanten (Lori); his grandchildren, Ally Hanten Ebert (Scott), Kelsey Vandal (Lee), Jess Radtke (Baylor), Jenny Wilson (Tim), Lee Hanten and Jae Hanten; his great grandchildren, Reid, Reece Ebert, Anzl, Aven Radtke, Caysen, Cohen, Tate and Tripp Wilson; and his sister Ruth Hanten of Sioux.
Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
