He was predeceased by: his parents, Aloysius Hermes and Mildred Hermes (Brown); his brother Merlyn Hermes; and his niece Sheryl Brakken-Feely. He is survived by: his siblings, Maggie Andreasen (Alan) of Glenwood, Shirley Brakken (Jim) of Carlos and Roger Hermes (Vicki) of Alexandria; and his nieces, Sharyn Brakken, Brenda Paper, Marcy Holl and Robin Lawrence. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
