He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Johnson and Eleanor Johnson (Nelson); his brother Jim; his nephews, Bobby Johnson and Jay Kurtz; his parents-in-law, Edward Kurtz and Mildred Stoa (Mel); his siblings-in-law, Georold Hulsing, Alvin Kurtz, Louis Boser, Arnold Kurtz, Chris Kurtz and Grace Boser; and his great-nephew Jerry Luke Hulsing.
He is survived by: his wife Laura Elizabeth Kurtz; his daughters, Cindi Naumann (Bart) and Cathy Johnson; his grandchildren, Derrick (Sarah), Dustin (Whitney), Dillon (Courtney), Tara (Alex) and Danielle (Shaun); his great grandchildren, Sidney, Beatrix, Edgar and Ellinor; his sisters, Mary Hulsing, Judy Cobb and Susan Velner (Dennis); and his siblings-in-law, Karen Kurtz, Rinehart Kurtz, Raymond Kurtz, Shirley Huver (Harold), Bernie Hanenberg, Diann Kurtz (Marv), George Kurtz (Nancy), Deli Stoltman, Gordy Kurtz (Debbie) and Elroy Kurtz. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
