He was predeceased by: his parents, Evert Winters and Vrouwkje Winters (van der Linde); his wife Sophie Hielkema; and his daughter Cindy. He is survived by: his children, Karen Medin, Marcia DeRuiter (Rich), James Winters (Ardeen), Mary Droogsma (Chuck) and Diane Winters; his son-in-law Steve Erickson; and his brother-in-law Allan Hielkema. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
