He was predeceased by: his parents, Alphonse Marthaler and Dorothy Marthaler (Imdieke); his sister LaVina Walz; his brothers-in-law, Cyril Stalberger, Allen Lembeck and Lindy Walz; and his nephew John Walz.
He is survived by: his siblings, Melvin Marthaler (Lucille) of Cold Spring, Dorothy Lembeck of Spring Hill, Clarine Stalberger of Meire Grove and Janice Kalstrom (Will) of St. Cloud. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews.
