He was predeceased by: his parents, William Engel and Esther Engel (Cooling); and his parents-in-law, Stan and Mary Nickerson. He is survived by: his wife Colleen Engel of Marshall; his children, Drew Engel (Julie) of Marshall, Ward Engel (Tracy) of Burnsville and Erin Gleis (Bryan) of Balaton; his grandchildren, Kristina Evers (Chad), Jared Engel (Meg), Jacob Engel, Natalie Engel, Austin Gleis, Alyssa Gleis and Riley Gleis; his great grandchildren, Patrick, Lucas, Logan, Everly and Lilly; and his sister Audrey Becker of Truman. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
He was a charter member of the Marshall YMCA Board of Directors and also served as chairman for both the Avera Marshall Foundation and the SMSU Foundation boards.
